Honor Flight Northern Colorado: Final Flight

The World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. was dedicated in 2005, nearly 60 years after war's end. Honor Flight Northern Colorado, a 501(c)3 organization, was founded in early 2008 as part of the National Honor Flight Network. An all-volunteer organization, their vision is to give the opportunity to every Northern Colorado World War II veteran to see their newly established memorial. Executing two flights per year with approximately 123 veterans and 60 guardians per flight we began flying in September of 2008.

The “Final Flight” will be on September 9th & 10th, 2018.  Let’s join them on the 9th of September leg of this final flight!

From the Honor Flight Northern Colorado website:  “The trip will begin at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center in Loveland, Colorado. Veterans arrive at 7 a.m. to register and meet up with their assigned guardians. They are greeted by members of the Colorado Patriot Guard lining the sidewalks with their flags. The Hotel provides a continental breakfast in the large ballroom and there is a short ceremony before boarding the buses for the drive to Denver International Airport.

The trip to DIA is in itself one of the featured highlights of the excursion. The motorcade is led by several law enforcement personnel and the Patriot Guard on their Motorcycles. The highways and overpasses are lined with first responders and members of the public waving and flying flags as the buses pass by. Near the Erie exit of I25 the crowds are traditionally so great in numbers that it has been dubbed "The Mile Of Smiles."  At the Signature Air Flight Services Terminal at DIA we have another short ceremony before the veterans are assisted onto the plane by military personnel from Buckley Air Force Base.”
