Zoka Ride
This is going to be a fantastic, scenic, and memorable ride (on so many levels). This ride is named for where we’re going to have lunch on the ride, Zoka’s Restaurant and Bar in Pine, CO. For this ride we have 2 routes to lunch that will be available depending on where you’re coming from, and which roads you want to ride (see below).
Since this ride will primarily start from Colorado Springs, we’re going to meet-up at our usual spot at the McDonald’s on Garden of the Gods and I-25 (434 W Garden of the Gods Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80907). From there we’re going to head up Hwy 24 towards Woodland Park. There, we’ll take Hwy 67 north to Pine and Zoka’s (16940 S. Pine Valley Road, Pine, CO 80470). This should be about a 1 hr 15 min ride. If people want to stop sooner for a 10 minute break on the way, we can in Deckers. (We can discuss this at the start.)
After lunch, we’ll continue north to Hwy 285, then west towards Jefferson. In Jefferson, we’ll head south on Hwy 77. For those that remember, YES, this is the same Hwy 77 that Pothole got his nickname, and where Scott broke his bike. However, the Ride Captain has assured us that we will not be dodging any potholes on this ride. (Hence, there will not be a Pothole Jr.) When Pothole initially took us down this road, it had recently been paved from Jefferson to Tarryall Reservoir. It was so new, it was like gliding on air. We were having such a good time that a Harley rider, who had joined us, said he would remove himself from the group because we were riding too fast. Too fast? There’s no such thing. Anyway, back then, the stretch of Hwy 77 from Tarryall Reservoir south to Hwy 24 was laden with so many potholes that we had to ride in a single file, and only ride at about 25 - 30 mph. Now, the entire road (less the last 7 miles) is paved. The last 7 miles is a little rough, but still a good road (and NO potholes). Now, we’ll be able to look at and enjoy the scenery, as opposed to dodging at potholes. Once we hit Hwy 24, we’ll head east to Divide and fuel up. The fuel stop is about 155 miles from the start, so everyone should be able to make it. Our last leg will be down Hwy 24 to Colorado Mountain Brewery at the Roundhouse on Hwy 24 and 21st St for some refreshments and good memories.
Below are links to the main route, and an alternate route for those coming from the north who don’t want to ride all the way to COS for the start. The starting point for the alternate route is arbitrary. Those that want to take the alternate route can coordinate amongst yourselves on where to meet up. Just make sure you get to Zoka’s between 10:30 and 10:45.
Alternate route (from the north). Some of you may recognize the first part of this route.
